Today I’m going to feature some fabulous kitchen islands for you to dream about this weekend. It makes me want to give my own kitchen island a little spruce.
Here we have islands in red…
Orange…
Yellow…
Green…
Blue…
Indigo…
And Violet…
And there you have it, kitchen islands in all the colors of the rainbow. I can’t believe I found one in violet. What are you dreaming of for this weekend?

Super fun! Though at one time I had a lavender kitchen, I cannot imagine a violet island. That’s just a little too far off into the galaxy for me. Yes…even me.
I got to go out on the lake this weekend, just yesterday afternoon for a few hours, but it was a beautiful day and I did dream of islands, but they were on the lake and I wished I owned one.
I also just told a friend of mine that you and I have often talked about painting my island a fun color. And I’m so wishing I had unlimited resources and could pay someone to come and brighten up my kitchen. The dark counter-tops (black) and wood cabinets that I didn’t choose, and would not have chosen, but made up my mind to enjoy have closed in on me a bit. Looking for bright ideas. The island redo may have to happen to keep me out of deep depression.
First that pantry turned mudroom has to happen…I need to go to Lowe’s.
I wouldn’t mind spending a day or two helping you paint your island. It would probably take two days to get it all finished. Martha Stewart’s Sea Glass would look nice. Or I think Sherwin Williams has a really bright green, Parakeet, that would be nice and bold.
Lakes are the thing I miss most about Lakeland and Hendersonville. We never went out on a boat (in Hendersonville, I used to all the time in Lakeland) but I loved visiting and having a picnic. Franklin, for all it’s charm and perks, has no lakes. It’s very sad
I think the hard part would be preparation. I’ll have to look up those colors but the sea glass sounds very nice. Do you know if that fake wood press-board stuff can be painted? I think the back of the island is made of that. Not really wood. I wonder if it would be better to use a piece of painted bead board on the back and side that are plain and just cover what’s there instead of painting that part. Not sure. I’ll investigate further.
Since your cabinets are pretty new and don’t have a shiny coat, it would really only take wiping them down to remove dust, grease, etc., and then a coat of oil based primer. Then two coats of latex and you’re good to go. I really don’t think you’d need to do any sanding. I sanded mine because they were coated in varnish. As far as bead board…yikes! As much DIY as I do, I’d probably hire somebody for something like that.
