Artist Spotlight: Elizabeth Behan

Today I’m featuring my sweet friend, Elizabeth Behan. Her passion is making things that are beautiful out of things that others would throw away. When I asked Elizabeth about featuring her on my blog she asked that I direct everyone to her {re}Wedding blog so that her story of hope and reconciliation could be spread to as many as will read it.

This past year Elizabeth and her husband, Micah, celebrated their {re}Wedding and Elizabeth worked hard to find just the right items for every part of the ceremony. From old lamps to typewriters, brooches to moss, every single detail had her stamp on it.

So, without further ado, meet my friend, Elizabeth. In this photo, she’s wearing the dress and necklace that she made for her wedding. She really is incredibly talented.

This is the bouquet she made for herself, it includes many brooches and if you look closely you’ll see a typewriter key as well.

This is a hollowed out pocket watch that Elizabeth made with her son who was to be their ring bearer.

And here is her daughter’s bouquet made with typewriter keys that spell out her name and an old clock face.

In addition to wedding things, Elizabeth also makes jewelry for sale.

You can find Elizabeth on Facebook here. She often sells things locally but can do special orders as well and you can contact her through her facebook page for that.

I hope you enjoyed today’s Artist Spotlight. You can find my previous Artist Spotlight on Ginny Celoria here. And, again, you can find Elizabeth’s story at her blog, behanrewedding.blogspot.com.

Upcycled Cans: Finished

Before I started actually making my Upcycled Cans I lamented that I’d given away my fabric stash last year. Once I started making them though I remembered why…

I should never be allowed to work with fabric. Ever. I couldn’t cut straight if my life depended on it.

Once I got past my initial freak out I came up with an ingenious plan…a legal size envelope and a chip clip. In desperation, I’d searched for a piece of paper to make a template and found out that a legal size envelope happened to fit perfectly around the outside of the can. To keep the fabric still so I could cut it I clipped it to the envelope with a chip clip. Yeah, I’m good like that.

Even though my fabric skills are dreadful (or maybe because they’re dreadful) I could not be happier with the way these cans turned out. Travis has even asked me to make one for his new office…in something manly of course. Manly fabric is usually really ugly though so we’ll see how that goes.

From the top.

Yes, I did one in green. And I love it. I love the crisp white too…I can’t really pick a favorite.

I’ve got two more fabrics and a bunch of cans to do…because this is kind of addictive once you get started. I also have a plan. I’m going to get a mat and roller cutter thing, that’s probably not the technical term, and see if I can cut straight like that. Then I can make more of these.

So, thanks again to, Ginny at Darling Adventures for this fantastic tutorial. If you made these cans with us share your link in the comments.

Artist Spotlight:Ginny Celoria

Today is my very first- of hopefully many- Artist Spotlight post. Today I’m featuring, Ginny Celoria, who also happens to be from my hometown of Lakeland, Florida. Her sister, Amey, Travis, and I all went to college together and Amey was the very first person to give me the, “Hey, you and Travis should get together” talk. Well, she really said it in passing and I may have rolled my eyes.

Ahem. Sorry, Honey.

Fast forward a dozen or so years and I found Ginny online. Darling Adventures is Ginny’s sewing and crafting blog . Though she has just joined the blogosphere, Ginny has big plans to expand her small collection of posts with video tutorials, prize giveaways, guest bloggers, electronic books, and even her own line of fabric. And if her current projects are any indication, it’s all going to be fabulous.

She already has an Etsy shop up and running with items like these beautiful lace earrings…that I just bought. Really, there was only one pair and even though I’m a jeans and t-shirt kind of gal, I thought these would dress up my casual style nicely. So I had to buy them, right?

You can find many other items for sale here. Like these vintage fat quarters which could be used for quilting or for the project I’m featuring today.

Today I want to feature a tutorial that she posted to her blog. It’s called, Upcycled Cans, and I think you’ll see why I fell in love with them.

Aren’t they so cute? It’s amazing what you can do with a can, spray paint, fabric, and Mod Podge. And I thought, “Hmmm, what if anybody that wants to did this tutorial with me?” You know, instead of pinning it and forgetting it, what if we actually did it together and all posted pictures on our blogs? If you’re interested just say so in the comments. I’d love to not be doing this by myself…although with two girls that love to create things I’m never really by myself on these things.

Since I’m in Birmingham this week, I will spare myself the frantic craziness of having to find all of this stuff while I’m here. So, Wednesday, April 11th will be the day that I post my own Upcycled Can. Who’s with me?

Oh, and if you missed the link to Ginny’s instructions you can find them here.

Happy Upcycling!
